上が取り付けた新しいドア。下が取り外した古いドア。

下の古いドアの方が明らかに低いので『ん？元写真の縦横比が違うのかな？』と思った方もおられるかと。

Above is the replaced new door. Below is the removed old door.

Perhaps you thought the base image's aspect ratio was messed up since the old door below is much shorter.

このドアはおそらく175㎝あるか無いかくらいのドアです。私がたまに頭をぶつけるくらいだったので。

This door is probably somewhere around 175 cm (5 feet 7 inches) since I bumped my head here from time to time.

義理の兄がおもむろにカッターを取り出してドアの上をケガキ始めたときは、えっ？と思いました。そして金づちで破壊。義理の兄は家の屋根が専門ですが、建築業界出身ではあるの別に騒ぐようなことではなくて、こういうもんなんだろうと思いつつもちょっとドキドキ。どちらかというと頭の中は若干他人事で、どうやってこれを収めるのだろうという感じでした。

すると彼が爽やかな笑みと共に『このままそっと閉じたい』と告白・・・。

When my brother in law took out his cutter knife and casually started to cut in his way above the door, I was like "Wha?". And then a hammer was deployed. Since my brother is from the house roofing industry, I assumed that that was just standard procedure, not an occasion to put my tap dancing shoes on. But still, my heart leaped a bit with my mind rather wondering, how _he_ was going to make the ends meet. Right there then he confessed with a refreshing smile saying,  "I wish I could quietly put this thing back."...

最終的にはこのようにつつがなく扉が取り付けられましたが、上部後始末も去ることながら実はドアがあった壁は斜めになっており、蝶番を柱部分に取り付けるにも謎の角度調整やら初心者にはやや荷が重いケースでした。たったあれだけの壁なのに壊したときに出たゴミたるや、質量保存の法則が壊れたのかと思うくらいでした。
でもその時はまさかあんなことになるとは思っていなかったのでした・・・。
In the end, the door was nicely replaced as you can see, but not only the upper part of the door needed some tinkering, but the wall where the door was also at an angle making it quite over our newbie's heads. The amount of garbage that the bit of wall made me wonder if the law of conservation of mass was broken or what.
But still, back then, we never have thought in our right mind, what awaited us...
